A Bit About the Festival of Southend

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Chalkwell Park, Southend on Sea, the Festival of Southend on Sea promises to be an exciting mix of quality craft, food produce, food and drink exhibitors, a health, healing and well-being area, fun fair rides for the kids, live music and more…

In celebration of Southend being the UK’s ‘Alternative City of Culture’, and in commemoration of the 125th Anniversary of the Borough, Southend Carnival Events are proud to present ‘Festival of Southend on Sea’ in Chalkwell Park this summer.

Open to all, the event promises to be a tremendous display of Southend-on-Sea’s finest: come and sample the exclusive food and drink on offer from local producers, peruse the many artisan craft stalls and join in the celebration of our superb music venues with live music on-site. To celebrate Southend’s notable history, Southend Museums will be showcasing some of our most historic moments, right in the heart of the Festival.

What’s more, the dedicated ‘KidZone’ will feature numerous activities in which your children can partake. From fairground rides to DJing and water conservation training with ‘Mad Science’, there is something for everyone. Disney’s ‘Frozen’ characters will also be storytelling on-site for the younger ones, whilst Essex Wildlife Trust will be hosting ‘stingingly’ exciting, bee-related craft classes. The best thing? These activities will all be free!

Thames Delta also presents the main stage of live music showcasing quality bands and artists from Southend. Over the 3 days, a full programme of music entertainment will run from 11am til 7pm each day for the whole family to enjoy. Soslam, Peggy Sues music bar, Ten Green Bottles pub and the Railway Hotel in Southend have come together to support the festival and local musicians. A second acoustic stage will showcase Thames Estuary singer-songwriters with open mic slots available to the public. This is funded by Arts Council/Southend Council and Southend Carnival.

Free Music Workshops at The Festival of Southend On Sea by, Quest Music Services will run as part of a vibrant music area. It will be a chance for young people to enjoy and get involved in within a safe environment; learn to DJ, create a song, sing, perform or rap live at the festival.  Free music workshops will be running from 11am till 6pm every day in the Kids Zone at the festival.

Adult tickets (with kids under 16 going free) are on sale below and the money raised by your bookings, as well as all donations during the Festival period, will be shared between MENCAP, the ‘Music Man’ project and Southend Carnival.

Southend Carnival Chair, Garry Lowen said, ‘we are really excited to be continuing to work with our key sponsors; SummerCare, Greenlight, Rossi Ice Cream, who will be present at the festival along with VIP Security, and c2c who continue to be our travel partner for all events.

A little more information about the Festival of Southend for traders

Our events feature the best we can find in local music and family fun entertainment and have a go’s. Our marketing is top notch and our social media campaigns include exhibitor mentions and interactions.

All pitches are on grass and for craft, health and well-being and food produce, the marquees are provided. For food catering and alcohol, with many exhibitors now having trailers, we expect food caterers to provide their own unit. Set-up day is on Friday 26th May and access is from 7am on festival day. Exhibitor car parking is provided but will not be adjacent to your stand. We welcome traders to demonstrate their products on certain pitches throughout the day, and our team will liaise with you on this and add these into our program.

Exhibitor camping is also available and is only a short walk from the festival site.

In 2017 The Borough of Southend on Sea is 125 years old , Southend is also the Alternative City of Culture for 2017 and the Festival of Southend is part of a programme that will celebrate the 125th anniversary as well as all that is great about food, drink, crafts and music.

The organisers of the festival, Southend Carnival and Food Festivals Ltd, view this as a long term project and will be investing in it year on year so that it becomes an event that attracts both ‘foodies’ and family visitors alike. With the high quality of food and craft that this region offers, we hope to attract exhibitors of such calibre so that the event becomes a showcase of Essex’s finest.

If you would like to exhibit at the festival please visit https://eventowl.co.uk/festival-of-southend-on-sea. If you have enquiries please email cathy@foodfestivalsltd.co.uk.
